I was scrolling through the morning news — the kind of mindless habit most of us have over chai — when a headline stopped me cold. 1,015 Indian students graduated as doctors. In the Philippines. In a single ceremony. I put the cup down.

As someone who spends every single day trying to find real, viable paths for students who’ve been told their MBBS dream is too expensive or too competitive, a number like that doesn’t just catch your eye. It pulls at something deeper. Because, behind each of those 1,015 is a family that refused to give up and a decision someone helped them make with the right information. That’s exactly why I kept reading. And why I wrote this.

What this landmark graduation means for Indian & Asian medical aspirants — and your complete roadmap to follow the same path.

A Landmark Milestone for Indian Medical Education Abroad

On 11 March 2026, history was made in Davao City, Philippines. 1,015 Indian-origin students were awarded Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees at the 25th International Medical Doctors Graduation Ceremony of Davao Medical School Foundation Inc. (DMSF) — making it one of the largest graduating cohorts of Indian medical students from a single overseas institution in recent years.

The MD degree awarded by DMSF is officially equivalent to the MBBS degree in India. This milestone is powerful, data-backed proof that the Philippines has become a dependable, globally respected, and cost-effective pathway for Indian students who dream of becoming doctors.
